I pull out my phone and demand my mom come pick me up. She says she’ll be back in 30-45 minutes. I’m terrified at this point. I decide to leave the store and wait somewhere else. The moment I turn back around to go outside, it’s pitch black night out there. I’m like what the heck, because it was just afternoon. I convince myself into thinking it was sunset anyways, even though it isn't. I start walking to the door anyways, and then as soon as I stand on the threshold of the door, suddenly I’m walking into the store instead of out of it. I turn around, and it’s night out there, but again as soon as I start moving to leave, it changes to the store again. So I’m standing there panicking as people pass me by walking in and out normally as if I’m insane, and I begin to wonder if it’s real. Is it a dream? I start crying, hyperventilating, wondering over and over, “Is this a dream? Am I real right now? Am I awake?” This part of the dream felt so so real I really thought I was there. So eventually, this voice in the back of my head says “Stop. You control your reality.” And I thought “You're right, you’re right.” So I collected myself and suddenly in front of me was the exit, and it was late afternoon like it had been. Sunset maybe in like half an hour. I sit on a bench outside of the store just reeling for a minute, when suddenly that girl who complimented me sits on the bench. And she comforts me, she says it’s happened to her too many times. “That’s the beauty of nature— there’re no doors.” So after a bit, my mom comes and picks me up and asks why I didn’t get anything, and when I looked back the girl was gone and then I woke up.
Dreams often reflect our subconscious thoughts and feelings, and interpreting them can provide insights into your emotional state and experiences. Here’s a breakdown of the themes and symbols present in your dream:
Calling for Help: Your demand for your mom to pick you up indicates a desire for comfort or reassurance. It may symbolize a challenging situation in your life where you’re feeling lost or scared and are seeking support.
Fear and Darkness: The sudden transition from afternoon to pitch black night suggests feelings of uncertainty or fear about the future. Night often represents the unknown or repressed fears, which could indicate you’re facing issues that seem daunting or confusing.
Reality and Control: Your struggle between wanting to leave the store and repeatedly finding yourself back inside suggests a sense of being trapped or stuck in a situation or mindset. The moment you question whether it is a dream points to a state of introspection and an awareness of your own mental state, reflecting a desire for clarity and understanding.
Panic and Anxiety: Crying and hyperventilating signify overwhelming feelings or stress. This could represent pressures in your waking life that are causing anxiety or feelings of inadequacy.
Self-Empowerment: The voice in your head that says “Stop. You control your reality” is a powerful moment in your dream. It suggests a realization of your own ability to change your circumstances and perceptions. This could be a reflection of your inner strength and the potential for personal growth through self-assertion.
Connection and Solace: The girl who comforts you embodies understanding and companionship. Her comment about the beauty of nature and “there’re no doors” could symbolize the idea that life is not constrained by rigid boundaries; instead, it suggests openness and possibilities. This could also represent a part of you that values connection and recognizes common human experiences of confusion or fear.
Returning to Normalcy: The eventual arrival of your mom indicates a return to comfort and safety, suggesting that while you may go through periods of anxiety and uncertainty, there is also a return to support and familiarity.
Overall, your dream seems to illustrate a journey through fear and confusion, ultimately leading to self-empowerment and the recognition that you have the ability to shape your own reality. It invites you to explore feelings of uncertainty while also acknowledging the support and connections that help you navigate challenges. This dream may be a reminder to tap into your inner strength and seek out those who bring you comfort.
